The Ceremony Structure
 
The Introduction
This section welcomes the guests, and details the philosophy of the couple approaching the marriage.
 
Readings, Poems, or Blessings
This is optional. It can be read by the Celebrant or a friend or relative, and may be added to any part of the ceremony.
 
Authorisation
This is a requirement of the Marriage Act 1961.
 
Presenting the Bride
This is optional, and can be done by family members or friends.
 
Vows
The bride and groom exchange their vows, and make their commitment to each other. Certain wording is required by law to be said, and the words husband and wife must be used.
 
The Ring Ceremony
The exchanging of rings with or without a blessing. It is not compulsory to exchange
rings.
 
The Signing of the Marriage Register and the Marriage Certificate.
 
The Declaration of Marriage
Formal notice given by Celebrant of the couple’s marriage.
 
Other cultural traditions can be included, and prayers of your choice said as blessings for the couple.
